We've had a few customers calling in to product support stating that they have unexplainably lost data on their D1600s. After many attempts to qualify these instances, we could only assume that there was some sort of hard drive issue. The really confusing part was the symptoms ... only the most recent recordings would disappear, leaving older recordings intact!?! Then it hit us. The D1600, like its little brothers, has a standby/power switch. But, unlike it's brothers it also has a power switch in the back of the unit... probably because unlike the D16 and the D12, the transformer is internal on D1600.
The data loss problem occurs when people opt to hit that BACK switch to power the unit off, which, in actuality, is much like yanking the external transformer jack out of a D12 or D16. It does not allow proper shutdown, hence no auto save and your the recent work is lost. SO, to turn off the D1600, make sure you use the standby/power switch on the top of the unit and then touch "Shut Down" on screen.
