The box that your D1600 came in contains two items
the D1600 recorder and a 20 GB hard drive. The drive has been packed separate
from the recorder to ensure that it arrives in perfect condition.
Before you can start using your recorder youll need
to install the hard drive into the D1600. Heres how easy it is to do (see
page 134 of your manual for complete illustrated instructions):
- Unpack the D1600 from its shipping carton. Do not plug
it in!
- Remove the front panel from the recorder by pushing down
the tabs located on each side of the case, and sliding the front cover off
carefully.
- Unscrew the two thumbscrews from the drive bay located
in the center of the front of the unit.
- Eject the drive bay using the small lever.
- Unpack the hard drive from its box, and remove the outer
wrapping. Be sure to locate the four small screws as well.
- Before installing the drive youll need to set the
jumper pin to "Master" mode. Look at the instructions on the drive
to see which pins the jumper needs to be placed on for this setting.
Note: On Quantum and Seagate drives this will be the
pins closest to the data ribbon connectors.
- Place the drive into the bay and connect the power supply
and data ribbon cables onto the connectors. Be sure to line up the pins carefully
before pushing the cable on securely.
- Attach the drive to the bay using the four small screws
supplied with the hard drive.
- Slide the drive into the D1600 case and push it forward
until it "clicks" securely. Replace the thumbscrews, tightening
them by hand.
- Attach the power cord and turn on the D1600. If you have
set the jumper pins correctly the D1600 will spin fully up and then ask "Init
Hard Disk?".
- Touch YES and in a moment the process will be completed.
Note: If it doesnt find the drive youll
need to check your jumper pin settings again.
- Youre now ready to use your D1600 Digital Recording
Studio. Be sure to replace the front panel and enjoy!
