...Record & playback a guitar track on the Korg PXR4

First be sure you...

* Save the demo songs to your computer (via USB) to free up memory to record new tracks.                                                                                                                             

* You must delete one of the demo songs first to record new tracks on the included card.

* Buy a 2nd card, it’s always good to have a spare one around.

  1. Inserting the card

·        Insert the Included or a blank Smart Media card into the card slot located on bottom of unit (slide cover open, push in the card)

  1. Connecting your guitar
  2. Connecting your headphones
  3. Setting the Master fader

·      Set to “0” (so you don’t damage your ears or speakers)

      5.             Turning on the power

6.   Set all faders and knobs to “6”, this will be a good starting level for playback.

 

Creating your best new song ever on the PXR4

  1. Press the (FF) fast forward key till you get to the last recorded song, stop the song if playing.
  1. Press (FF) once again; the display will indicate “MakeNew!” The display will then change to “SNGGrade” Std (Song Grade- Standard Record mode).
  1. Turn the dial to select the record grade for the new song (eco/Std/Hiq)              

Hi Quality- 11min 15 sec

Standard- 16min 50 sec              {1 Track, 16MB SmartMedia

Economy- 33 min 50 sec                 

  1. Then press the Right (Cursor) arrow key.
  1. A song named “NEW SONG” will show on the display briefly and then change to 00:00.00 followed by the song number and recording grade.

How to Record

1. Press the Track 1 (REC SELECT) key, a “(0)” circle will surround the track number.

2. Checking the Input level

·        Hold down the (SHIFT) key and press the (MIXER) key to switch the “DISPLAY” indicator in the screen to “PRE” (pre-fader level).

·        While watching the level meter, turn the (INPUT TRIM) knob a little at a time to adjust the recording level. Set the level as high as possible without allowing the level meter to reach “CLIP”.

Setting the recording level

1. Hold down the (SHIFT) key, then press the (MIXER) key to switch the “DISPLAY” indicator in the screen to “POST” (post-fader level).

·        While watching the level meter, slowly raise the (TRACK) fader for that track.

·        Set the level as high as possible without allowing the meter to reach “CLIP”.

2. Press the (REC) key

·        The “REC” icon in the display will blink; you are now in record-standby mode.

3. Press the (PLAY) key to record

·        Recording will start as soon as you press the “PLAY” key, so start playing your instrument. During recording, the “REC” icon and “PLAY” icon will be lit.

4. Press the (STOP) key to end recording.

·        When you have finished playing, press the “STOP” key. Recording will stop, and the “REC” icon will disappear.

Playback

           

1. Press the (REW) rewind key.

·        The counter time will move to the beginning of the song.

2. Turn off the (REC SELECT) key for that track,

·        The “0” symbol around the track number will be gone.

3. Press the (PLAY) key

·        Playback will begin and the “PLAY” icon will be lit.

4. Press the (STOP) key Press the (STOP) key to stop playback. Playback will stop and the “PLAY” icon will go dark.

Saving your music to your computer (USB)

1.      Connect the USB cable to the PXR4 (USB) connector port and to your computer.

2.      Press the SYSTEM/RHYTHM button 6 times, “USB comm.” Will be displayed.

3.      Press the Right CURSOR key; the screen will change to Ready? And “no” will blink.

4.      Turn the dial one right click; the screen will display “YES”.

5.      Press the Right CURSOR key, the display will indicate “CRDREADY”

·        A drive named “Removable Disk” will be added to your computer.

1.       Open the removable disk drive; you will see the contents of the card.

2.      Copy the desired Song/Effect data into your computer, Desktop etc.

(Song data from your computer can also be written into the SmartMedia.

           

Disconnecting the PXR4 from your computer

1.      Make sure that the display has changed from “CardLock” to “CrdReady”.

2.      Press the Right CURSOR key, the display will indicate “Complete” and “no” will blink.

3.      Turn the dial Right one click; the screen will change to “YES”.

4.      Press the Right CURSOR key, the song title will display then 00:00.00

5.      Disconnect the USB cable from the PXR4.

Mac Users:

·        Macintosh users/ Supported Versions: Mac OS9.0.4 or later.

  1. Connect the USB cable to the PXR4 (USB) connector port and to your computer.
  2. Press the SYSTEM/RHYTHM button 6 times, “USB comm.” Will be displayed.
  3. Press the Right CURSOR key; the screen will change to Ready? And “no” will blink.
  4. Turn the dial one right click; the screen will display “YES”.
  5. Press the Right CURSOR key, the display will indicate “CRDREADY”

·        A drive named “Unnamed” will be added to your desktop.

1.      Open the drive; you will see the contents of the card.

2.      Copy the desired Song/Effect data into your computer, Desktop etc.

(Song data from your computer can also be written into the SmartMedia.

Disconnecting the PXR4 from your computer

1.      Drag the drive into the recycling bin, or select “Special” menu item “Remove”

2.      Disconnect the USB cable from the PXR4.

How to Delete a Song

Go to the Song you wish to delete.

  1. Press the SYSTEM/RHYTHM button 2 times; “EditSong” will be displayed.
  2. Press the Right CURSOR key; “NameSong” will be displayed.
  3. Press the Down CURSOR key; “DelSong” will be displayed.
  4. Press the Right CURSOR key; “DestSong” will be displayed.
  5. Press the Right CURSOR key, “DEL OK?” will be displayed and YES will blink. (If you press the Left CURSOR key, you can go back to the previous page)
  6.  Press the Right CURSOR key, the display will indicate “Sure” and no will blink.
  7. Turn the dial one Right click, the screen will display a blinking “YES”.
  8. Press the Right CURSOR key, the song will be deleted and the display will indicate, “Finish!”

(If you press the Left CURSOR key, you will go back to the previous page.

Using the Sub Line Input

If you want to play along with the playback of the four tracks, you can use the external Input that is added directly to the master.

  1. Connect your external Input device to the Input (stereo mini) jack.
  2. Press the SYSTEM/RHYTHM button 5 times; “System” will be displayed.
  3. Press the Right CURSOR key 4 times, “SubIn” will indicate and “off” will blink.
  4. Turn the dial Right one click, “on” will blink. The Sub Line is now on.
  5. Press the “EXIT” button 3 times to return to the top of the song.

Using the Built-In Chromatic Tuner of the PXR4

  1. Connect your guitar to the “Guitar Input” connector.
  2. Set the “INPUT SELECT” switch to GUITAR.
  3. If tuning an Acoustic instrument, set switch to “MIC”.
  4. If using a Line connected instrument, only the Left side will tune.
  5. While stopped, press the “EFFECT/TUNER” button to enter Tuner Mode.

(If the “EFFECT ASSIGN” has been assigned, press the “EFFECT/TUNER” button once again to enter Tuner Mode.

  1. Play a string on your guitar; tune the string while watching the amount of tuning difference (displayed in units of cents) and the meter display.
  2. The reference pitch frequency is A=440 Hz.
  3. When tuning is correct the display will read

     |      E             000

      9.   Press the “EXIT” button to exit the tuning mode.
